WARNING-GRAPHIC!!
Due to all the swelling & bleeding in her brain, they had to drill several holes in her skull & she had a fractured part of her skull removed from (what I understand) part of her forehead. I am heading up there today to see her in person, so I'll have a better idea of the details.
So the surgery last night meant that the bleeding was done and the swelling is going down, so they patched it up. As far as brain damage, she is still being closely monitored. They hadn't performed a CT scan yet due to swelling, but hopefully today.
Alissa is now responding to dr. commands like lifting her thumb, etc. and to her mother's voice. This is great news for hopefully no brain damage.
And the swelling is getting better, but anyone who knows about facial surgery knows that surgery makes it worse, so hopefully it won't damage her skin anymore than it already has.
The doctors are planning a game plan and discussing her first surgery to build her face hopefully next week. The first step will be her jaw bone and cheeks. She still has no idea what is going on and is heavily sedated. I pray that when she is able to find out, that she is strong enough to get through the pain of knowing she will never look the same.
A more detailed account of exactly what happened: she was driving on a dark hwy, and a BULL was standing in the road. She didn't see it, and it's legs flew up from under it. It landed on the top of the windshield on her side, landing on her face. Nobody can believe that she doesn't have anything else broken and that her friend next to her didn't get hurt at all. Her friend grabbed the wheel and got them off the road by hitting a tree.
It was obvious that God was right there with her.
It really means a lot for all the prayers being sent our way. I know within a couple hours, our whole city had heard and there is an outpouring of support that is beyond appreciated.
Hopefully, I can keep everyone updated soon & until then just pray she makes it out of this okay.
