This post is for all my IFers who think there is no hope at times.
This last weekend, I met someone in Colorado who was a friend of the bride. Her name is Amanda. I know she will never see this, so I feel I can write about her. We were in the car on our drive to Alamosa, and she said, "so when are you having babies?" It took me by surprise b/c I had just met this girl. But I quickly opened up and said "we're working on it." Her first comments irked me a tad when she said "stand on your head, or just stop trying, it worked for us!" Immediately I shut off. I didn't want her advise as it is the same as everyone else's. stop trying, do this position, do that position, take this, etc. It gets old u know?
But out of nowhere, she decided to tell me how she got pregnant. It was def. a shocker. See, she's 25 and when she was in high school, while playing basketball, she broke her leg. It killed her b/c she was so athletic & basketball was her life. But that was nothing compared to what was about to change in her life. She never healed so after a lot of testing, she was told she had bone cancer & her tumor was the size of a grapefruit. The dr's where she lived were not prepaired to handle such a mass so they sent her somwhere else in Colorado. It turned out to not be any better b/c for the next few years, she went through round and round of chemotherapy(for nothing according to her final specialist). She missed graduation and lost her scholarship to play college basketball w/her bff, a dream they had since childhood. Just when she thought her life was over, she was finished w/her final round of chemo & met her future husband. They went on to get married & found out later that she was not going to be able to have kids due to all of her chemo. She was rightfully devastated & angry at the dr's who made her go through all this for nothing. They had tried everything! It was when they gave up that she miraculously got pregnant! She had a very difficult pregnancy and even gave birth wayyy early, while almost dying. But she made it and her little girl Riley made it as well. She said she couldn't be happier w/the way things turned out.
After her story, I told God thank you for sending your messenger to me to share this story b/c just when I'm losing hope, I find out there is indeed hope to have a baby myself. Whether it be from treatments or just naturally, I know it will happen. She is truly an inspiration!
